The Position
The Controller is a key leadership role reporting to the Head of Finance and Risk. This position is critical in shaping and executing Elective’s financial operations, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and strategic financial decision-making. The Controller will oversee all accounting functions, build scalable processes, and support the company’s expansion into the U.S. market.
The role also requires a proactive and innovative approach to financial reporting, automation, and cross-border financial management. As Elective continues to grow, the Controller will be instrumental in optimizing financial operations and supporting long-term business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Own and oversee all aspects of the accounting function, including general ledger management, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, tax filings, and financial reporting.
- Develop and implement accounting policies, controls, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and business goals.
- Lead financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and alignment with management and board requirements.
- Collaborate with the Operations and Strategy Analyst and the Senior Accounting and Finance Analyst to enhance financial reporting capabilities.
Cross-Border & Loan Accounting
- Manage financial operations across Canada and the U.S., ensuring seamless integration of accounting practices and compliance with cross-border regulations.
- Oversee structured financial products, including loan accounting, loan sales, interest revenue, and deferred revenue recognition.
- Work with external tax accountants and auditors to ensure compliance with tax laws and audit preparedness.
Process Optimization & Technology Integration
- Identify and implement technology solutions to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.
- Lead automation initiatives, particularly in accounting and risk controls, new product lines, and financial reporting.
- Develop scalable financial processes to support the company’s rapid growth and product expansion.

Key Qualifications
- CPA designation required.
- 5-8 years of experience in accounting, preferably with exposure to financial services, lending, or structured financial products.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Proficiency in cross-border accounting and familiarity with both Canadian and U.S. accounting standards (or willingness to learn).
- Experience leveraging technology to enhance automation and efficiency.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across teams.

Compensation and Benefits
The compensation range for this position is $100,000 – $140,000 annually, with a performance-based bonus as part of the compensation package. This range reflects market benchmarks and accounts for varying levels of experience, from candidates growing into the role to those with an established track record. Compensation will be determined based on relevant knowledge, skills, and experience.
