Associate Lawyer

Summary

Our client is seeking an Associate Lawyer, with the primary focus on Insurance Defense Litigation. This is a one-year term to cover for maternity leave, with the possibility of becoming permanent.

The right fit for this position is a 3-5 year call with litigation experience, preferably in insurance defense litigation, and is a resourceful and resilient lawyer who will create innovative solutions for your clients.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Communicate with clients to learn about their legal needs and concerns website, company offerings, sales, and marketing, etc. All the basics.
  • Develop strategies to resolve cases favorably and cost-effectively for clients
  • Explain legal options to clients and bring possible outcomes or risks to their attention
  • Build relationships with clients based on being trustworthy
  • Conduct legal research
  • Prepare well-written legal documents such as pleadings and motions, accurately and in a timely manner
  • Interview and depose witnesses
  • Prepare for and conduct discoveries and trials, either on your own or in partnership with another lawyer
Is This You? Here’s How You’ll Know:
  • Law degree combined with 3-5 years of experience in litigation
  • Member of the BC bar (or the bar of another Canadian jurisdiction) in good standing
  • Proactive and organized work style
  • Ability to influence others when explaining/presenting complex ideas
  • Willingness to work collaboratively as a part of a dedicated team
  • Excellent verbal, negotiation, interpersonal, and drafting skills
  • Excellent client service and communication skills

In this position, there’s a possibility of working remotely 30-50% of the time. All equipment and technology to facilitate working from home will be provided by the firm.

A note about COVID-19:
  • Our client is primarily working remotely during the COVID-19 outbreak and has been fortunate to be able to maintain business continuity during this time
  • While working remotely, they are holding video conference team meetings twice per week and have implemented Slack as a tool to enable communication and connection
  • They will accommodate social distancing by using technology to facilitate the recruitment process
  • In addition, if the start date falls before the social distancing restrictions are lifted, onboarding and working can be done remotely; they can arrange to have any equipment/supplies couriered to your home
  • They recognize during this period some people may be dealing with challenges around childcare/homeschooling and we can be flexible to accommodate your needs
