Position Mandate

As a key member of the executive team, the CFO leads the finance function, building strong processes and controls, overseeing compliance with US and Canadian federal, state, and provincial regulations, ensuring timely and relevant reporting, to contribute insightful financial data to support strategic planning and achievement of the company’s business goals, within the context of the company’s values. There is lots of room to create measurable impact as the company continues to evolve its management and leadership practices.

Location

Primarily an in-office position located in the company’s head office in southwestern Ontario

Primary Areas of Accountability

As a trusted advisor and partner to the CEO and the leadership team, working collaboratively drive the growth and profitability of the company with ownership of the financial function:

  • Participate in regular strategic planning
  • Create and implement a culture of timely financial compliance within American and Canadian jurisdictions
  • Create and document SOPs and procedures for company’s financial process and implement company wide
  • Improve and enhance financial reporting to ensure timely and accurate delivery of insightful and actionable financial intelligence
  • Provide oversight and direction for cash management; review banking terms to ensure company has the appropriate terms and relationships
  • Ensure sound budgeting and forecasting practices
  • Support pricing for project estimating
  • Manage and develop an accounting team
  • Ensure financial operations are internalized and understood across the company

The Candidate Profile                             

Ideal Experience and Qualifications

  • Strong accounting background ideally within landscape architecture/landscaping, construction, non-continuous process manufacturing or project specific environments with billable hours
  • Experience in accounting sub-functions (P&L management, reporting, cash flow forecasting, banking, budgeting, cost accounting, compliance)
  • Experience providing pricing support for project estimating
  • Experience with ASPE is an asset
  • Ideally managed an accounting team
  • CPA designation highly desirable

  • Skilled at creating and implementing controls, policies and procedures, and reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply US and Canadian statutory legislation and regulations
  • Technical accounting skills
  • Strong reporting skills
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills and ability to work with all levels within the organization
