The Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) manages the Port of Prince Rupert, Canada’s third largest port and the closest North American trade gateway to Asia. The port is made up of industry-leading container, bulk, and liquid bulk terminal operations and is a key port-of-call for Alaskan cruise passengers. 

THE POSITION

The Manager, Corporate Communications develops and executes the communications programs in support of the Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA)’s corporate strategy, including providing service to the Public Affairs, Trade Development, and Human Resources teams.  

MAJOR POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Manages the development, implementation, and maintenance of PRPA’s communications tools and programs including the development of performance measures to track the success of communications activities.
  • Produces collateral material (print and digital) including annual reports, brochures, publications, website, presentations and audio/visual productions targeting existing and potential commercial and community stakeholders,  the general public and all other stakeholders identified in PRPA’s stakeholder engagement plan.
  • Leads media relations activities, including the development of media relations tools. Coordinates press releases, announcements, presentations, newspapers and magazine articles. Establishes and maintains effective relations with local, provincial, national and trade media, and facilitates media engagement with appropriate spokespeople in support of the successful fulfilment of the PRPA’s media relations strategy.
  • Leads advertising and promotions planning and activities, including the development of collateral material, and the coordination of effective multimedia campaigns, and other related promotional activities independently or in collaboration with external agencies.
  • Develops and implements PRPA’s internal communications plans in collaboration with the Human Resources team and PRPA executive to enable staff engagement and the development, design and implementation of strategic staff communication.
  • Oversees PRPA’s brand and graphic standards to ensure overall consistency in language, tone, and visual appearance.
  • Represents PRPA at various meetings, conferences, events and other functions as prioritized.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the VP, Public Affairs & Sustainability or President & Chief Executive Officer.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS 

Formal Education 

Degree in Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or other related discipline. 

Related Experience 

10+ years working in the communications field. Experience in a communications management level role is considered a strong asset.

  • Demonstrated experience in working with media, including liaising with journalists/writers and advertising representatives.

  • Creative and intuitive thinker, enthusiastic, self-motivated individual who can work independently as well as be a valuable team player.
  • Proficient in MS Office, especially Word, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with graphic design programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Experience with website content management systems such as WordPress,
  • Provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 with a vaccine approved by Health Canada.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
  • Able to obtain security clearance under Transport Canada’s Security Clearance Program.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License

LOCATION

This role is located in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, and is not eligible for remote work. Those who live in, or are willing to relocate to Prince Rupert will be considered.

Starting base salary for this role ranges from $120,625 – $140,728
